Lara Dutta hopes for bumper Diwali with 'Blue'

Lara Dutta, who has been creating waves with her svelte figure and bold avatar in the promos of 'Blue', hopes the film turns out to be a hit and makes her Diwali really special.

'Blue', also starring Akshay Kumar, Sanjay Dutt and Zayed Khan is centered on an underwater treasure guarded by sharks and is slated to release Oct 16, just a day before Diwali.

'My next film after 'Do Knot Disturb', 'Blue' is releasing just a day before Diwali, so I'm hoping that it does well and my Diwali becomes a bumper Diwali,' Lara, who was wearing a pink satin dress, told reporters here.

The former beauty queen-turned-actress was in the capital to attend the 25th edition of MMTC's Festival of Gold.

Asked how she planned to celebrate the festival of lights, Lara said Diwali would be a family affair for her this year, unlike last time.

'Diwali is a festival meant to be celebrated with family, but last year I was shooting in Singapore for 'Do Knot Disturb'. So this year I'll be spending time with my close ones,' Lara said.

I have no problem with Sushmita: Lara

NEW DELHI: The two beauty queens became Miss Universe and later joined Bollywood. Now when they come together for a film, rumours of rivalry are bound to do the rounds. But Lara Dutta, who stars along with Sushmita Sen in comedy "Do Knot Distrurb", says they got along well and would love to work together again.

"Sushmita is a lovely person and we never had any problem working with each other. This (rumour) is generated for publicity, but there is normally very little truth behind the talk that we didn't get along," Lara told IANS in an interview."Our country has only two Miss Universes and if they also start fighting...it couldn't get sadder than that. I just wish I had more screen time to share with her, as we had not worked together earlier and it was a fantastic opportunity," she said.

Rumour mills were abuzz that the two actresses were having a cold war due to Lara's meaty part in the film directed by David Dhawan.Lara hoped she would get a chance to work again with Sushmita, who was crowned Miss Universe in 1994.

Lara will make you laugh!

Even in her forthcoming films Do Knot Disturb and Houseful, Lara hopes to get a few laughs with her roles. “These comedies allow me to let myself go in a way I can never do in real life because I’m too private a person,” she said.

Lara confirmed, “Yes, Houseful will be my third comic role in a row. And I’m not worried. It’s a large cast (Deepika Padukone and Jiah Khan). But I have the best part among the girls.”

Lara is proud to be known as a comedy actor. She said, “It’s been a while since we had a leading lady doing comedy. I love working with directors like Priyadarshan, David Dhawan and Sajid Khan. I love it when they say they can’t think of anyone else for the part. I think doing comedy is far tougher than serious roles. I don’t have to break my bangles and rub the sindoor off my hair to prove a good performance. Though I still have to get that one performance-oriented role which would take me to another level. Every morning I wake up and say, I know it’s out there somewhere.”

Lara Dutta will be co-hosting IDEA IIFA Awards 2009

Lara, 31, emphasized comfort with her travel attire, wearing a blue floral print collar top with long sleeves and jeans. She accessorized with a brown leather studded belt, Louis Vuitton tote, diamond drop earrings, diamond pendant necklace and a watch in her left arm.

Lara Dutta will be one of the hosts, along with Ritesh Deshmukh and Boman Irani, at the three day long IIFA event starting on June 11 at the Venetian Macau-Resort-Hotel. The event will include a performance by the world-famous Cirque de Soleil.

Lara Dutta to join Riteish, Boman as IIFA co-host

The Idea IIFA Awards 2009 are just a few days away and with each passing day the excitement just keeps growing more and more, especially as the IIFA action shifts to Macau this year.

Most of Bollywood's biggest stars are expected to make an appearance at the 10th edition of the IIFA Awards which kickstarts on June 11th 2009.

Lara gives credit to Akshay

Lara Dutta may be going on and on about her underwater stunts in Blue — well, there’s little else she’ll talk about, she’s always so mumwhen it comes to anything else — but the lass is now also giving due credit to co-actor Akshay Kumar for those deep sea acts. Apparently, it was Akki who suggested her name for the movie! “Akshay was the one who recommended my name for Blue,” she confesses. Lara told us that she wasn’t too comfy diving 70 feet under water with sharks all around, but it was Akshay who pushed her to do it. “I got a call from Akshay. He suggested that I take some swimming lessons before the starting of the film, and that if I wasn’t comfortable then I could well back out of the movie altogether. But then Akshay has a favourite dialogue that works wonders for me. He says, ‘Tum nahin toh aur kaun?’ That really gets me!” laughs Lara.

Lara is also shaking a leg with Kylie Minogue in the promo video of Blue along with Akshay Kumar. Sources say that there is some female bonding happening on the sets whete Lara is giving her 'inputs' to Kylie about India and Bollywood.

Mumbai: Making her debut as an international TV show host, Lara Dutta will soon be seen diving into the deep seas. Having recently acquired her US deep sea diving certificate, Lara says that she will soon start shooting for the show that aims to raise awareness about the endangered marine life due to rising levels of pollution in the oceans.

"I have just been certified as a deep sea diver (by an international agency in the US) and I can dive up to 70 feet anywhere in the world. I was contacted by National Geographic to shoot for this 32-episode docu-feature which will involve deep sea diving in spots which are out of bounds for the general public. I have been given special permission to shoot in these isolated spots in the high seas as the host of this show. I have already given my nod for 13 episodes; I am working my dates out for the rest of the programme," says Lara, who always wanted to be an environmentalist.

"Ever since I won the Miss Universe crown, I was itching to take up a cause like this. I am a goodwill ambassador for the UN for the past nine years now and I am glad that I will be able to make people aware about the grave dangers that marine life is staring at," the actor adds.

Seen feeding sharks and whales in her next film Blue, Lara says, "That is when I discovered my love for the sea and the life forms that thrive in there." Of course, our earthly 'life forms' will be more than thrilled to see Lara diving around in sexy bikinis and bodysuits, no? "If you are expecting to see me dancing or running across the beach in a bikini in the film, you will be disappointed. A lot of actors may have done that, but I am not comfortable in those scenes. In fact, I have told Tony (D'Souza) that I should not be seen in swimwear in any shot outside water," she clarifies.
